Author name: Ken Cruickshank

One of my favorite authors, Ken Follett, believes prospective novelists must have a keen imagination, be stubborn, and possess technical writing skills. I was born with the first two traits and work tirelessly to master the third. MS and an accident put me in a wheelchair during my tech career, but I discovered my passion for writing, and here I am. My goals are to write unique and consuming fiction, thrillers, historical fiction, and nonfiction. Eagle Bay, my debut psychological thriller, was released on June 1, 2023. The Emerald Cross, a thriller pitting an ex-Green Beret hero against a Mexican drug lord, is scheduled for release on November 1, 2023. I published my memoir: Stand Up, a memoir of disease, family, faith & hope in 2018.

Mine is a writer’s life: They messed with the wrong soldier.

A glimpse of the action from The Emerald Cross, due out within 90 days. You will love and admire ex-Green Beret hero Jamie Morales. Delgado’s home resembled Mission San Juan Capistrano. It was stunning. Jamie scanned its walls, beams, and roof for cameras but saw none. He told himself they’ve got to have CCTV. Was he being …

Mine is a writer’s life: Sometimes, the price is just too high.

February 1, 2023 The blue-eyed antagonist in Eagle Bay is a brilliant but troubled soul. After a particularly unsettling act, I envisioned him sitting in his den, sipping port, and reflecting on his heinous deed. At the same time, he listens to the lyrics of Behind Blue Eyes as the chapter ends. But I was …

Mine is a writer’s life: Who will lift the Westbrookes’ veil of deceit?

January 24, 2023 The Santa Sofia is swept ashore in 1536. Four hundred fifty years later, its precious cargo is ruining souls. ……………………………………………………………….. Ten-foot doors rattled as a gust of wind tested century-old hinges. The clanging of a metal coupling against a flagpole outside mimicked the remote pings of a buoy in Eagle Bay. John …

Mine is a writer’s life: What are your dreams?

January 22, 2023 What are your dreams? When I was healthy and still able to pilot, I dreamed of owning and flying a De Havilland Beaver – the plane that conquered the Rockies! I think it’s one of the most beautiful planes ever built, and it’s considered so relevant that there’s one hanging in the …

Mine is a writer’s life: We all have a past.

January 14, 2023 Cruickshank is an old Scottish name. My father was most parts Scottish, some parts English, and one-quarter German. My mother’s surname was Kenny, and her parents were poor Irish country folk who coincidentally emigrated from Galway about the same time at the turn of the twentieth century. They hadn’t met before getting …

Mine is a writer’s life: Technology delays and editing realities.

January 7, 2023 I cannot type due to poor dexterity related to my MS, so when I purchased a new computer, and after my wife helped me rearrange my office to install it, I spent two days working on software problems related to the transition. And I know I am not unique to such frustrations! …

Mine is a writer’s life. Passions invigorate.

December 28, 2022  Nothing trumps family, especially during the holidays. We have been enjoying splendid Southern California weather for four days – sunny days and cool evenings. While nothing trumps family, there is a pecking order within families, and grandchildren inhabit the top of the pyramid. And just believe me when I tell you our …
