My wife and I no longer travel by air due to myriad challenges I won’t bore you with. But we love road-tripping in the Western US, particularly from our home in Arizona to Orange County or Austin, Texas. The big draw in the OC is the indomitable Charlotte, our granddaughter, for whom I do not have enough superlatives to describe adequately. I have been informed that 5000 years ago, a wise woman stated that if she knew how fulfilling and stellar the grandchild experience would be, she would have foregone having children.
While I cannot write on the road due to physical and technological challenges, I can (barely) speak notes into my phone, which are gold upon returning home. An author never knows when that perfect scene or twist will enter his consciousness to make his story better. As I have often stated, one of the greatest joys of writing is knowing that when you set your pen down, you have just created something that never existed when you started. That’s pretty cool stuff, whether it’s the next Great American Novel or not.
