Blackstone Country Club invited me to be the guest speaker for their Ladies Luncheon, and I was privileged to interact with thirty-five classy and interesting women at the event. I read two very different chapters from my memoir, Stand Up – one that triggered stronger emotions than I anticipated and one that had the audience laughing along with me. Ten attendees had Golden Tickets (actually, they were old-school orange tickets, the kind we used to hand in for cotton candy) placed beneath their placemats that they swapped for a copy of one of my first three books. Also handed out copies of the first three chapters of my next novel, Doheny Drive. Thank you, Blackstone women, for the opportunity; I’ll never forget it!

I have been inundated with doctor visits and tests that are all quite boring, so I’ll be quite pleased when they’re all completed! (What a dumb thing to say – my doctor visits and associated tests are never truly completed! Anyone with a chronic disease knows what I mean.) Regardless, I have been spending time every day editing and completing Doheny Drive, and I am excited to present it to agents and publishers in the not-too-distant future. Anyone who reads the first three chapters and sends me a one or two-sentence comment (it’s okay, I like it, I love it) gets a free Butterfinger! I’m a huge advocate for healthy eating.
Cheers from the Sonoran Desert,
Ken Cruickshank
