Mine is a Writer’s Life: Busy like you…

I continue to query agents for Doheny Drive: Three Boys and The Girl. The novel centers on four 6th-grade neighbors, three boys and a girl, who meet in the cul-de-sac of Doheny Drive in 1972. They remain connected by unyielding friendship, coming-of-age, mischief, romances, tragedy, illness, failure, and redemption. There’s a lot going on within the pages of Doheny Drive! They stay bonded through myriad trials and the beauty of six unforgettable decades. Querying is an involved process, with the goal of finding the right agent who will fall in love with your story and present it to publishers. Through trial and error, I’ve learned that the best process for me is to trickle out queries each day. Some of you know I can’t type; I use speech-to-text software to create my manuscripts, handle social media marketing, or communicate with potential agents. My physical restraints slow me down, but they are simply part of the routine. The goal is for agents to request a full manuscript for review and then love it.

I am excited about my latest manuscript’s potential. Writing books can be a taxing journey, where rejection is the norm and thick skin is a precious asset. I understand the challenges of partnering with an agent in a crowded field, but I’m stubborn and committed to getting one of my novels on bookstore shelves across the country. Is it a realistic pursuit? We’ll see, but why not? I am proud of the three books I have published through my imprint, Glendoveer Press, and I genuinely believe Doheny Drive: Three Boys and The Girl could be the breakthrough that generates buzz. Cross your fingers for me, but smile, because I really enjoy this journey. I’ll be creating manuscripts for future books, regardless.

My querying was justifiably interrupted while we were visiting family in California for our third granddaughter’s birth! Welcome to the world, Daisy! We spent eighteen wonderful days with our son, daughter-in-law, and their two precious daughters. A week later, my writing, editing, and querying were interrupted again, for yet another excellent reason! Our NYC daughter, son-in-law, and their amazing daughter flew here to Arizona for a visit. Check out the photo of my talented artist wife and her latest tiny patron. Beautiful stuff…
