The blue-eyed antagonist in Eagle Bay is a brilliant but troubled soul. After a particularly unsettling act, I envisioned him sitting in his den, sipping port, and reflecting on his heinous deed. At the same time, he listens to the lyrics of Behind Blue Eyes as the chapter ends. But I was just informed by the company that owns the rights to the song that a fee of 13.3% of sales would be owed if I printed the lyrics as planned. I love the song and the scene, but I don’t love it 13.3%. I have some creative ideas on how to build the drama and emotion without the lyrics on the page. Wish me luck!
