My motto is ‘Have straw, will travel.’ We enjoyed a special happy hour at a neighbor’s house, met new people, reconnected with some great friends, and had a wonderful evening. Don’t be fooled by the small glass in front of me; the homemade concoction inside was surprisingly potent – and tasty! PS: Alcohol drains more quickly through a straw. Be warned.

An unexpected (and bizarrely triggered) accident in my home office eight weeks ago resulted in me falling hard onto a tile floor, rewarding me with a prominent gash (now scar) on my forehead, a concussion that is mostly gone, and a brain bleed that stopped bleeding (otherwise, I wouldn’t be writing this update!) Life has a way of doling out surprises, right? I am finally back to book-related affairs…

In fact, after too many delays – none of them fabricated – my first query letter for Doheny Drive: Three Boys and The Girl was sent out a few days ago! “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” As the famous quote suggests, I’m holding on to heaps of hope that my novel will get picked up by an agency!

It was in the 80s in Phoenix over the past week and even reached the 90s one day. Bring it on! I love the heat. Oh, yes – we found another rattlesnake at the front door.
Cheers from the Sonoran Desert,
Ken
