I am a crazy huge fan of butterflies and birds! Having grown up in Southern California, before DDT and other chemicals (and additional factors) decimated populations, I would count 20 or 30 monarchs on the hedge adjoining our neighbor’s property. 2021 saw a huge upswing in the annual monarch count across the Golden State, and I’m hoping for more of the same in 2023. We now live in Arizona, and I look forward to the famous butterflies making their way from the Rockies to California while passing through the Phoenix area.
